All Candle Supplies List

I've been making candles at home for about 10 years. During those 10 years I've perfected the candle supplies list. I try to buy everything locally. I've found a great source of products at a lot of local stores and you can too!

Sure, you can buy your candle supplies online, but supporting your local businesses and getting to know the people who run the stores is worth your time. I've needed a few custom items like large wicks and the local shops were able to get them for me when I had trouble finding them online.

The basic supplies never change, so here is my basic candle making supplies list.

  • Candle Wax
  • Wicks
  • Double Boiler
  • Candle Coloring (Crayons)
  • Candle Scents (Perfume if you're desperate!)
  • Molds

Once you have you're supplies, you're ready to start making your own candles! There are a million guides online telling you how to make candles, so I'm going to give you some secrets about buying the right supplies.

Wax

Not all waxes are created equal. Paraffin wax is generally the least expensive and burns the fastest. Soy wax is more expensive but lasts longer.

Wicks

Wicks, like waxes are not created equal. There are still candles being imported into the United States that contain lead in the wicks. Most of these candles are imported by China. U.S. based National Candle Association members have voluntarily agreed to stop using lead, but that hasn't stopped importers. Zinc and pure copper have been shown to be a good wick stiffener while remaining safe.
